Grenoble -around
the Railway.
-disused,
forgotten, taken away or
abandoned lines.
12- The old Chambery line, private sidings in Gustave Flaubert and
Alfred de Vigny roads.
All
the pictures can be enlarged with a mouse click!

168- Far ahead, Grenoble's cultural centre, MC2.

169- Closer to MC2, Flaubert road's points.
We are back in the railway handling yard between
Stalingrad road and Marcelin Berthelot avenue. Looking towards the
Belledonne mountains, we can see the Grenoble Cultural Centre, MC2. As
we get closer, we see the start of Albert of Vigny road. Many of these
tracks are still there, but they will soon be gone because the
land will become the future Flaubert Park, part of the green corridor
between different neighbourhoods. For now, we will follow Gustave
Flaubert road, there are a still lots of private sidings.

170- Grenoble Cultural Centre and Agriculture House.

171- The points in the scrub and the snow.

172- An earlier photo of the points control lever.

173- A counter balance weight taken apart and lying in the grass.

174- On the edge of Gustave Flaubert road.

175- The private branch line of the Department of Agriculture.

176- The points as they were in 2008.

177- The Gustave Flaubert road branch line.

178- The line coming into the old French Telephone workshops.

179- The old telephone workshop, now the Bifurk.

180- The Gustave Flaubert line continues.

181- Lines for a scrap yard, a builders suppliers and the CFF.

182- Tracks for the CFF on the left, then the builders merchants and
the scrap yard on the right.

183- Between the two walls, the CFF track branching out to the right.

184- The first builders merchant's track.

185- The builders supplier's track, looking the other way.

186- The CFF track.

187- The CFF sign on the gate post.

188- A second track for the builder's merchant.

189- The track leaving Gustave Flaubert road.

190- The track crosses Alliés road and joins Alfred de Vigny road.

191- The line alongside Alfred de Vigny road.

192- Continuing along the Alfred de Vigny road.
We are now coming to the old Métalisère recycling
company. It is at the heart of the Vigny-Musset neighbourhood
development and all the tracks have been pulled up from here on, at
least, I haven't found any, unfortunately!
But all is not lost, thanks to Google's delay in updating their
images
for Google Maps, I found them. There is also an older image found on
the remarkable website of Stéphane Revel. I recommend a visit, there
are many other photographs of private sidings and other
industrial heritage sites taken over the past ten years or so. The link
is below.

193- Following alongside Albert de Vigny road.

194- Underneath the cars, the branch lines for Métalisère.

195- The same place around 2000, tracks go through the building.

196- The line continues on Alfred de Vigny road, here at the Lucien
Andrieux road junction.

197- Continuing along Alfred de Vigny road, here at Guy de Maupassant
road junction.

198- The old track for Caterpillar branches out.

199- The old Caterpillar line branching out towards the Police
barracks.

200- The track coming to the end of Alfred de Vigny road.
All these last images are no longer visible on the
ground, the Vigny-Musset neighbourhood is booming. However, with Google
Images, we have been able to complete our tour of the private sidings
on the 'La
Capuche' line.
Now it remains only to return to Marcelin Berthelot avenue, opposite
the Cultural Centre, to conclude our tour of the old Chambery line.
