Great controversy in the French parliament about "piracy" on the internet and I'm not surprised. If these politicians wanted to alienate the public, especially the youngsters, they couldn't go about it in a better way. Don't forget we're already paying a tax on blank cds and dvds for the performing rights.
What they really want to do of course is to get back the control that in some ways internet has taken away: you can control television and radio, and even newspapers by pressure of government or even publicity, but internet is another kettle of fish. In any case lets be vigilant about certain things: freedom of opinion etc...
Copying music why has it become something to 'outlaw'. Some of the recorded material has certainly done the rounds( vinyl, cassettes, mini discs, now cd's and music dvd's). How many times do you have to pay the royalties?
With the advent of mobile telephones, commercial minded people realised they could make people pay for anything even something you can get for free* (radio, tv and even the telephone itself now).Or was it the nostalgia of the minitel, where people spent a fortune to chat to each other, and now it's free*.

The debate will carry on and the writing is on the wall. If you want to record music you can (1) borrow it from a friend, (2) get it from the library or (3) record it off the radio.

*FREE- this is something we're used to seeing a lot, the asterisk, which in this case means that free isn't really free of course. You will need to have an internet provider and a telephone line or will need to buy a television or radio.

Il y a une grande polémique au parlement français au sujet du piratage sur l'Internet. Moi, je ne suis pas étonné. Si ces politiciens voulaient aliéner le public, particulièrement les jeunes, ils ne pourraient pas mieux s'y prendre. N'oubliez pas que nous payons déjà un impôt sur les CD et les dvds vierges pour les droits d'auteurs.
Ce qu'ils veulent vraiment faire, est de récupérer le contrôle de l'Internet d'une certaine manière: vous pouvez commander la télévision et la radio, et même les journaux par pression de gouvernement ou même de publicité, mais l'Internet est une autre affaire. De toute façon restons vigilants au sujet de certaines choses : liberté d'opinion etc.....
Pourquoi copier de la musique est il devenu  quelque chose de proscrit? Une partie du matériel enregistré a certainement fait le tour(Disques vinyles, les cassettes, les mini disques, maintenant les CD et les dvd de musique). Combien de fois devions-nous payer les redevances ?
Avec l'arrivée de téléphones mobiles, les commerciaux ont réalisé qu'elles pourraient inciter les gens à payer pour n'importe quoi même quelque chose que vous pouvez obtenir gratuitement* (la radio, la TV et même le téléphone lui-même maintenant). Ou est-ce que c'était la nostalgie du minitel, où les gens ont dépensé une fortune pour causer entre eux, et maintenant on peut le faire gratuitement*.
La discussion continuera et l'écriture est sur le mur. Si vous voulez enregistrer la musique vous pouvez (1) l'emprunter à un ami, (2) l'obtenir d'une bibliothèque ou (3) enregistrer la radio. C'est comme vous voulez!

* GRATUIT- ceci est quelque chose que nous sommes habitués à voir beaucoup, l'astérisque, qui dans ce cas-ci veut dire que ce n'est pas vraiment gratuit naturellement. Vous devrez avoir un fournisseur Internet et une ligne téléphonique ou vous devrez acheter un téléviseur ou une radio.
